Today I was just feeling lonely, and I wondered why...Was I just not getting out enough? See, Ken takes my car 12 hours a day, so I have no transportation. It didn't take until this evening when I turned the tv on to see what was on, that what I missed were the shows I liked to watch. During the day when I needed a break, I used to just click on the TV and watch a show off my DVR. That was my connection to the world around me. Now that's gone. I'll need to build new connections.
I also didn't realize that channels 2,4, and 5 don't come in very well with our bunny ears on the tv. Now I remember why we got cable in the first place. We couldn't stand the static on the tv. Ok, I will survive this. My husband better take me out on dates more often now! It's not a good thing when I'm looking forward to him being gone on his trip next week, because then I'll have a car.
He called today and asked me what was happening? I said, "Nothing" He said, "Then what's wrong? I said, "That's exactly what's wrong, Nothing's happening!" Well it's time for me to step out of my box and make something happen. Just what exactly.. that is the question?

Goodbye cable, Goodbye DVR!
Today the Applegates said goodbye to cable!
I'm not going to miss the cable really, but I sure will miss the DVR! I thought it would be hard to have to watch tv according to what's actually on at the moment, but actually, I am finding that the shows aren't as tempting to watch without that handy dandy DVR remote to skip through the commercials, and the recording capability that allows you to watch tv WHENEVER you want. I'm not even tempted to turn the tv on tonight to watch House. And Dancing with the Stars doesn't have the same appeal if I can't fast forward through the 50 minutes of talking and replays they do all night.
What I'll miss:
1. House Hunters International and Myles of Style
2. Thomas the Train for the boys
3. Skipping through commercials
4. Being able to record a show and watch it later
5. Cable edited Rated R movies (I never would have watched The Patriot, The Last Samurai, etc. if I didn't have that edited option)
What I won't miss:
1. Spending money on cable
2. Disney Channel
3. Feeling like I "have" to get caught up on the shows in my DVR, just so I can erase them.
4. Ken watching CSI shows.
5. The noise in the house.
Hey, maybe I'll have more time to blog, or to read, or to keep up with the household chores, maybe I will bake more, cook more, and just maybe we'll have the spirit more in our house with the added peace and quiet. Maybe we'll play more games as a family, go out more as a family, instead of using the tv for entertainment. And hey, I can always watch or record my favorite shows like Survivor anyways. It will be a pain, but we'll survive, life could be worse!

Our week in Connecticut....
The boys and I just spent a week in Connecticut visiting my brother and his family. I'm so glad I went, I needed the break! The area is so beautiful it was hard to come back to Utah. There were trees EVERYWHERE! And squirrels too! They lived about 5 minutes to the beach and every day we either went to the beach or to the park. I also did a lot of reading. That's my kind of vacation!
First, the airplane ride. The trip on the way was a lot easier than the return. Although, on the return we had those EVEN MORE LEG ROOM SEATS, and that made it alot easier not having to worry about the boys bumping the people in front of them!
Then, here's some of my favorite beach pics!
And my mom came up with this idea, love the pics!
